In a clinical study involving 1,062 people, researchers looked at the effects of nattokinase taken at 10,800 FU per day for 12 months. The researchers reported:
Among the 683 participants who had carotid artery measurements, the researchers reported a 21.7% decrease in carotid intima-media thickness and a 36% decrease in carotid plaque size after 12 months.
The researchers also looked at a much lower dose: 3,600 FU per day. At that dose, they did not observe the same significant changes in LDL, total cholesterol, triglycerides, carotid artery thickness, or plaque measurements.
